Bothell Overview
Bothell is a gorgeous suburb of Seattle that offers its residents quiet and affordable residences within a stone’s throw of the employment opportunities and cultural amenities of the greater Seattle area. This suburban community also offers its own great attractions with beautiful parks, strong school system, and bustling downtown sector.
What is the history of Bothell?
The modern history of Bothell began when in 1876 Canadian George Brackett established a commercial logging camp here. That camp attracted not just loggers, but also their families and soon a store, sawmill, and even school popped up to serve the incoming residents. Bothell’s convenient location on the Sammamish River helped it in its growth and even after logging ended people still came to Bothell. Today, over 33,500 residents call it home.
How is the weather in Bothell?
Bothell, like much of the coastal northwest, enjoys a temperate climate without extreme heat in the summer or cold in the winter. Very rarely will residents suffer through a blizzard or exhaustive heatwave. However, what Bothell and its neighbors do experience a lot is rain. During the fall and winter months, residents can expect rain, even if it’s just a short, light sprinkle, to be a near-daily experience.
How do I get around town?
Interstate 405 conveniently runs through the heart of Bothell, offering Bothell apartment residents and businesses quick and easy access to the greater Seattle area and beyond. Additionally, as with most of King and Snohomish counties, Bothell is part of a comprehensive public transit grid that offers residents fast and reliable access to places in and outside the city.
What is the Bothell commute like?
Seattle is a big and popular metropolitan area and Bothell just one of many suburban cities that are a part of it. As such, Bothell residents should expect to encounter routine traffic if they commute into downtown Seattle but minimal traffic if they stay in or near Bothell itself.
What are the local media outlets?
Bothell has its fair share of online and print news outlets as well as a local television news station. But in addition to these expected types of media outlets, Bothelll also boasts the unique UWave Radio station. This radio station was founded by a group of University of Washington Bothell students in 2012 and has been broadcasting ever since. This local radio station prides itself on offering a great mix of local music and community interest programs.
Why live in Bothell, WA?
Bothell is similar to a lot of small Pacific Northwestern towns in that it prioritizes green spaces, facilitates a good business environment for entrepreneurs, and boasts a strong school system (it is, in fact, home to both Cascadia College and University of Washington, Bothell campus). But it also has its own charm that draws people here rather than to other Seattle suburbs and neighborhoods and part of its charm is its focus on kindness and being neighborly. The city was recognized for this charm last year when Reader’s Digest included it near the top of its list of the 10 Nicest Places in America. It earned that reputation in part for its official organization with events like one-of-a-kind “Cup of Kindness” holiday and in part to many unofficial acts of kindness promoted by its own residents.
What Bothell landmarks should I see?
While the logging camp and sawmill that first brought people to Bothell no longer stand, there are still a number of landmarks that make Bothell stand out. An old wooden bridge called the Bothell Bridge still stands and serves as a gorgeous water crossing over the Sammamish River. There’s also the huge Bothell Chicken statue that guards the entrance to the city’s Country Village -- which is a collection of vintage-themed shops and restaurants on the northern end of downtown Bothell.
What is there to do around Bothell?
During warmer weather and on sunny winter days, you’ll find many of the residents of Bothell outside and enjoying the beautiful days in the city’s many parks and exploring its myriad biking and hiking trails. For when the weather isn’t so nice or for when the sun has long set, the city’s many breweries are often the go-to places to be.
Any annual festivals or Bothell events to know?
We’ve already mentioned the city’s unique Cup of Kindness Day which encourages every resident to do at least one kind thing for someone else, yet that is just one of the many annual festivals Bothell celebrates. Other exciting annual events include the City of Bothell Riverfest and the City of Bothell Freedom Festival.
Where are the nearby vacation spots?
Bothell offers the perfect jumping ground for outdoors and cultural-loving vacationers. Olympic National Forest to the west and the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest to the east offer incredible hiking and similar nature escapes. Or for those who love big city action, both Seattle and Vancouver are just a short drive away.
Where is the best place to move in Bothell?
Where you feel most at home and comfortable in Bothell will largely depend upon what you desire in a home. This is a big community that is constantly growing, and yet it does have different neighborhoods with different appeals. If you enjoy walkability and having easy and quick access to amenities like local breweries and downtown shops and residents, then you'll probably appreciate the newer apartments located to the north end of Bothell's downtown area. This downtown also includes some older residences that also a good choice. Both Cascadia College and the University of Washington at Bothell are located west of the downtown near where I-405 intersects with Woodinville Drive. In this area of the city you'll also find many newer apartments, although most of them are more oriented towards college students and so the better choice for students and young professionals. Families and professionals who want a quieter, more park-like atmosphere should look for apartments and homes to the south of the downtown and on the other side of the Sammamish River.
