Carson Overview

A true South Bay Los Angeles favorite, Carson promises to let you enjoy the finest in California living. Ample sunny days, palm trees swaying in the breeze, and beach trips galore all await your arrival – and that’s just the start. While living in Carson apartments, you can count on having all the best shopping, dining, and entertainment venues just minutes away. Fortune 500 companies abound, too, making it easy to build a successful career while still having time to enjoy all the city has to offer. So, it’s no wonder why nearly 100,000 residents proudly call this city home – and even more will undoubtedly join them in the coming years.

What is the history of Carson?

Although peaceful living is the name of the game nowadays, Carson once had much turmoil on its soil. At its peak, the Battle of Rancho Dominguez occurred right in the Rancho San Pedro area during the Mexican-American War. After the US claimed the territory, however, all that changed, opening the doors for the drilling of oil. Many companies owned the mineral rights, including the Carson Estate Company, allowing them to collectively fill about 300 barrels a day. The drilling went on from 1921 to 1960 when the community decided to prioritize the cleanup of the land. Since then, residences, retail spaces, parks, business centers, and so much more popped up all over town, creating a lively community space for all to enjoy.

How is the weather in Carson?

With its warm-summer Mediterranean climate, Carson enjoys more than its fair share of bright, sunny days. The nearby oceanside does cool things down a bit during the summer, so you’ll stay plenty comfortable despite the constant sunshine. In fact, on average, high temperatures stay in the 67 to 79 degree Fahrenheit range while lows rarely go below 47 degrees. Rainy days are fairly few and far between, too. But there’s still usually enough precipitation to nourish the garden on the balcony of your apartments in Carson. Fog is common through the late spring to early summer, although they tend to burn off by midday.

How do I get around town?

If you want to get around town with ease, then owning a car is a must. Barring that, you can make use of the public transportation system, dubbed the Carson Circuit. This fixed-route bus service runs every 40 minutes across two lines that traverse through the most popular areas of the city. Since they’re built primarily for commuters, there’s no midday service on those lines. If you’d like to go even further, then the Long Beach Transit Service is the way to go instead. Walking and biking are not truly viable in the city due to its 20 square mile footprint and overall lack of bike lanes.

What is the Carson commute like?

When commuting to Los Angeles by car, you can expect an average trip to take about 27 minutes total. Going to Long Beach instead? That’s just a 15-minute trip. When tooling around town, you’ll usually only need to drive for a few minutes to get to your destination. Convenient access to major freeways helps make quick work of your commutes. The San Diego Freeway runs through the center of town, allowing you to quickly go northwest or southeast. When you’d like to go north or south, you’re just minutes from the Harbor Freeway. For an east-to-west trip, or vice versa, you have the Garden Freeway along the northern side of town.

What are the local media outlets?

While residing in apartments in Carson, you can easily put your ear to the ground and get local news from TV, radio stations, and newspapers galore. All the major Los Angeles stations regularly hit on Carson news, including NBC, ABC, and CW. Your radio can pick up stations all over Los Angeles, Pasadena, and beyond. You even have many university-based FM stations available, like 88.1 KKJZ, 89.9 KCRW, and 91.5KUSC. If you prefer to read your news, then just look to the Daily Breeze for the inside scoop.

Why live in Carson, CA?

If you’re dreaming of living in California, apartments in Carson promise to leave you delighted with their spacious floorplans and endless amenities. The designers often make great use of the space, too, by using high-end finishes to create a truly attractive place to live. So, you’ll always want to bring in your friends and family for a dinner party or simply lounge around together for a movie night. Beyond that, the city itself always proves delightful as well, offering fun in the sun at every turn. You’re never far from a beach, golf course, or park, after all, which ensures you can always get out of the house and have a great time.

What Carson landmarks should I see?

With Los Angeles just down the way, there’s no real need for big landmarks in Carson. Despite that, the city designers went all out in the creation of the Dignity Health Sports Park. Located on the northside of the city, this features a variety of stadiums for football, soccer, tennis, indoor track cycling, and so much more. Other awesome parks in the city include the Victoria Community Regional Park, Dolphin Park, and Dominguez Park. The California State University, Dominguez Hills campus serves as a major attraction as well, especially when students start thinking about where to continue their studies.

What is there to do around Carson?

At Dignity Health Sports Park, you’re always able to join the crowds in cheering on the latest athletes to land there. If you prefer to get your own body moving, you can go swimming at local aquatic centers, stop by The Lab basketball courts, or join pickup games at the many parks nearby. Want to play a round (or two!) of golf? Then, just head on over to The Links at Victoria Golf Course. And on those lazy days when you just want to shop, dine, and perhaps catch a movie, you just have to go on over to the SouthBay Pavilion shopping mall.

Any annual festivals or Carson events to know?

Living in Carson apartments puts you in the center of all the action, especially when it comes to annual festivals. Although Los Angeles, Long Beach, and all the other major surrounding cities attract most of the festivals, it’s not uncommon to see art-, music-, and food-centric events land in town. Either way, you never have to go far to celebrate all the things you love alongside your community.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

Vacation opportunities abound for residents of Carson, California. You have Long Beach just fifteen minutes to the south, for example, where you can stay at the iconic The Queen Mary floating hotel. Santa Monica is about 30 minutes to the north, giving you a chance to stroll its beautiful beaches and enjoy all the attractions on the pier. When you’d like to go on camping adventures, there’s Topanga State Park, Angeles National Forest, and the San Bernadino National Forest right in your midst. You can even travel to Tijuana in just three hours or make it to Las Vegas in less than five hours if you wish.

Where is the best place to move in Carson?

While looking for a wonderful place to live, you really cannot go wrong when selecting a neighborhood in Carson. If you’d like to live within walking distance of major stores and eateries, then choose an apartment near East Carson Street, South Main Street, or South Avalon Boulevard. To reside in a quieter area, look at West Carson as your ideal place to live. You’ll still be just minutes away from all the best destinations in town but get to enjoy a more serene neighborhood aesthetic.
