Clovis Overview

Clovis is a city of approximately 110,000 residents located just outside of Fresno. Positioned halfway between Los Angelos and San Francisco, it's the perfect mix of small-town life combined with big city opportunities. Known as the Gateway to the Sierras, Clovis sits at the base of the Sierra Nevada Mountain Range and is the perfect place for outdoor enthusiasts to call home.

What is the history of Clovis?

While Clovis was discovered in the late 1890s, it wasn't incorporated until 1912. A farmer named Cole Clovis agreed to sell part of his land so that a railroad could be expanded through the area and a station added in Clovis. The city eventually grew in part due to the railroad but has always remained agriculturally rich.

How is the weather in Clovis?

California is known for its beautiful weather, and Clovis is no exception. The summer months are downright beautiful with barely a cloud in the sky and temperatures reaching highs of 85-90 degrees. With less rain than the average US city overall, it is also less humid than average. The winter months bring the most rain and December to January are the coldest months with highs in the 50s. Both spring and fall bring a range of temperatures from 60-85, depending on the month.

How do I get around town?

As a smaller city, Clovis does not have a major airport (although they do have a private one). The nearest airport is in Fresno. There are two transit lines, including one especially for disabled residents, and you'll find an Amtrack station 8 miles away in Fresno. There are ample opportunities to walk through the town to get to your desired location, and most residents use a car to get around.

What is the Clovis commute like?

Highway 168 is the only major route in and out of the city. At only 23 square miles in area and no other major roads, this city has more of a small town feel. Traffic is light compared to the more populated Fresno, but the average commute is still around 20 minutes one way during peak traffic.

What are the local media outlets?

There are no media outlets located in Clovis proper, but 33 radio stations and 8 TV stations serve the city. The closest and most commonly watched and listened to stations all originate in nearby Fresno. The Clovis Roundup is the leading newspaper in town, but residents can also opt for the Fresno Bee, which covers Clovis news.

Why live in Clovis, CA?

This city has it all. Set against a beautiful backdrop with gorgeous weather, Clovis also has access to various recreational activities, making it fun for everyone. The hospitals and schools have excellent reputations, and there is ample housing, including apartments in Clovis. The community works together to keep up Clovis' reputation, so you're in friendly hands and part of something good.

What Clovis landmarks should I see?

Any annual festivals or Clovis events to know?

The most well-known yearly event is the Farmer's Market every Friday night in downtown Clovis. The market runs from April to August and offers fresh, local fruits and vegetables. Clovis also has a rodeo in March and Trail Fest in April. And of course, like most cities, it has its very own 4th of July celebration.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

There are many well-known hot spots nearby, including Yosemite National Park and Sequoia National Park. King's Canyon is also worth seeing. If you're willing to drive further, Napa Valley is a great option, as well as seeing the sights in Los Angelos or San Francisco. Being centrally located has its advantages.

Only 60% of residents are homeowners, so many people live in apartments in Clovis. The most expensive neighborhoods tend to be as you head northeast further away from Fresno, but there are 26 neighborhoods in all.
