If you're an apartment-ite with a lofty taste for steak, it's worth giving Mitchell's Steakhouse a try. Located in downtown Columbus on N 3rd St, this eatery boasts elegant décor, vibrant lighting and quite, rather upscale service indeed. The restaurant has the old-world charm of an art deco hotel, right down to the decorative alcove, heavy oak furnishings and revolving door. For food, there's naturally a lot of meat; vegetarian or vegan apartment-ites will have little to choose from other than salads or sides (try the truffles mac 'n' cheese or the potato au gratin), but the star menu items are the filet, sea bass and lamb. There's also a hearty range of soups (try the lobster bisque) and a pleasant variety of desserts, including the lava cake. No matter what you order, the attention to detail is refreshing, particularly for anyone who's rightfully finicky about how they want their steak prepared. The staff are attentive without being too smother-y, and are polite and friendly. If you're not up for a full-on meal, the well-stocked bar serves appetizers and can get fairly busy on weekends. Dress code is smart casual for the restaurant, but jeans are cool at the bar.
