For a taste of authentic Green food, right in the heart of Greektown, one place worth trying is Pegasus Taverna. Named after the famed winged horse of Greek mythology, the restaurant with give you a fantastic ride through the culinary wonderland that is Greece, and once you begin your adventure, you will never want to leave again. Family run for over 24 years, this place beats with the heart of Greektown, and you won't find a more authentically Greek feel than here. To start your meal, you can choose between cold appetizers, and hot appetizers. Cold appetizers include Tzadziki, yogurt with cucumbers, salt, garlic and olive oil, scordalia, garlic potato spread with beets, taramosalata, red Greek caviar, or Aginares, marinated artichoke hearts. Hot appetizers include Saganaki "Opa", Greek Kasseri cheese with a little something special, Saganaki Tourkolemano, shrimp baked with feta cheese, onion, tomatoes and green peppers, or Saganaki Loukaneko, spiced Greek Sausage with flaming brandy, or Dolmathakia, grape leaves stuffed with ground beef, rice, and spices, served with lemon or tomato sauce. If that's not enough to get you salivating, moving on to the main courses is sure to get you going. You can pick from many delicious options made from your choice of meats, or choose something special from their Greek Specialties menu, including Spanakoteropeta, spinach cheese pie, Moussaka, thinly sliced eggplant and ground meat covered in Bechamel sauce, Pastitsio, macaroni with ground meat, grated cheese and a Bechamel sauce, or try all three together in the Greek Trio. They also have delicious ground lamb gyros straight from the rotisserie. The menu is full of so many other options, that I could go on all day and not cover half of the choices. You'll have to stop in yourself and check out all the great dishes available for you. Make sure to save room for one of their delicious desserts, including their famous baklava, bougasta, filo pastry served warm with custard, rizogalo, a creamy rice pudding, loukoumades, light fritters dipped in honey and sprinkled with cinnamon and walnuts, cream caramel, tiramisu or chocolate mousse. Not place does Greek as well as this.
