Glendale, NY is in Queens County. Nestled in New York City, it’s an upper-middle-class neighborhood with a population of just under 40,000 residents. Glendale has been around since the early 19th century, when it was called Fresh Ponds. The school system is top-rated and has many landmarks within this historic district. George C. Shott was given Fresh Ponds as a debt repayment in 1860. He renamed it Glendale after his hometown in Ohio. Nine years later, a real estate agent bought property in the area and called it Glendale too. He took things a step further by laying out streets and dividing the property into 469 lots.

Not unlike much of New York City, the weather in Glendale, NY varies according to the season. The summers are humid, warm, and wet, while the winters are cold, windy, and snowy. Most of the year it’s partly cloudy. It’s always best to be prepared during the summer months with an umbrella, but for the most part, July and August can get really hot.

When trying to get around the city or go to nearby locations, depending on where you live, a car would be a good idea. Queens is huge, so it’s a lot of ground to cover. There are public transportation options available, including the Fresh Pond Road Subway Station, the MTA Halsey Street Subway Station, LIRR Forest Hills Station, The R Train, adjoining stations, and buses. There are also cabs, Lyft, and Uber.  The nearest major airport to Glendale, NY is LaGuardia Airport which has international and domestic flights. John F. Kennedy International Airport is also within proximity.

In Queens County, the major highways include I-87. There is also I-90, which is the longest. There are many other connectors, including I-81 that will take you to Pennsylvania. I-95 crosses New Jersey into New York and to Connecticut.
