What is the history of Newport Beach?

The succesful navigation of the large steam ship in the late 1800s lead to a settlement along the Newport Harbor, and by 1905 the Pacific Electric Railway had constructed an outpost in the city. This new connection to Los Angeles lead to an increased local population, and an industry of ship building and commercial fishing soon took hold. Today, Newport Beach apartments largely act as bedroom communities for retirees or those working in the tourism industry, with the ocean being largely utilized for recreational purposes.

How is the weather in Newport Beach?

Due to its proximity to the Pacific Ocean, Newport Beach's weather patterns tend to me cooler than average in the summer and warmed than most in the winter. Snow is practically unheard of, and the months of June-August are as close to ideal 'Cali weather' as it gets.

How do I get around town?

The Balboa Island Ferry offers some coastal transport, with bus service on the mainland also available. Many calling Newport Beach apartments home still rely on at least one car or truck to their name, although bicycling is incredibly popular on the coast as well. Unsurpisingly, boating is also popular in this seaside city, with many locals owning their own vessel of one form or another. John Wayne Airport is the nearest option for air travel.

What is the Newport Beach commute like?

Route 55 crosses the city limits, while Route 1 runs the coastline headed south. Interstate 405 remains the closest major roadway, leading toward Irvine and beyond. Those commuting via I-405 can expect a fair amount of daily congestion, thanks to California's notorious traffic. Still, residents of Newport Beach rentals generally should find easy conditions when it comes to getting across town.

What are the local media outlets?

The 'LA Times' is a major print option in the city, and radio tends to lean towards mellow vibes, including reggae, soft jazz, NPR talk and classic rock. Most apartments for rent in Newport Beach enjoy easy access to a world of broadcasting options, thanks to the wide array of network affiliates in the nearby LA markets.

Why live in Newport Beach, CA?

Offering a huge assortment of local hot spots ranging from historical sites to eateries, retail shopping to nightlife, Newport Beach apartments are highly sought after for good reason. Offering a casual and relaxed ambiance, this charming city by the sea is also home to numerous public parks and welcoming beaches, truly yielding a California city that lives up to the hype.

What Newport Beach landmarks should I see?

Take a romantic walk along Balboa Pier, or enjoy some fishing at the Crystal Cove State Park, both reached with ease from many Newport Beach rentals. Surfing along the famous Wedge area is a must-try, and the Newport Harbor Nautical Museum is a proven testement to the city's lengthy history. The Newport Theatre Arts Center is yet another excellent spot to check out, offering live stage shows on most evenings.

What is there to do around Newport Beach?

Get into the swing of things with a day of golf near Pelican Hill, or enjoy a romantic dinner at Fleming's Prime Steak House. Whale watching is almost always in season here, and the Newport Beach boardwalk makes a perfect spot to ride your bike. Don't forget to stop by the Dory Fish Market for some fresh catch on the way home to your new Newport Beach apartment!

Any annual festivals or Newport Beach events to know?

The Wooden Boat Festival is a popular local event, and beer can races can be seen almost weekly during the summer months thanks to the Balboa Yacht Club. Independence Day is also a big deal in this coastal city, complete with a parade and impressive fireworks display.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

Balboa Island is literally a stone's throw away from many rentals in Newport Beach, and it has much in the way of fishing, hiking and camping. Of course, the art galleries and star home tours of Hollywood are always a big draw, and for a romantic weekend getaway you can't get much better than a trip to California wine country near San Fran.
