John Haywood built his family home in 1799 while he serving as the states first elected treasurer. It remained a family home until 1977 when it became a historical landmark. It is a fascinating place to visit for any Raleigh apartment dweller who is interested in the history of the city and the entire state. Haywood Hall is the oldest house in the entire Raleigh city limits. Raleigh apartment residents can spend hours perusing the house with its original furnishings, priceless family portraits and permanent collection of dolls that will delight and charm you. Raleigh apartment dwellers are especially fond of the Haywood House Gardens which are filled with flora and fauna of every kind. Roses, gardenias and trees and shrubs of all sorts fill the gardens around the winding walkways and beautiful gazebo. The gardens and the gazebo are exact replicas of the originals put in place by Eliza Haywood, wife of the treasurer John Haywood. Haywood Hall House and Gardens apartments residents are so fortunate to be able to enjoy this living piece of history at any time.
