Richfield Overview
Richfield is located in Hennepin County, has a population of less than 40,000, and is a Minneapolis-St. Paul suburb. You'll find that Richfield apartments offer a home in an area that's the epicenter of everything that Minnesota has to offer, where both families and single professionals can enjoy a mix of urban and suburban landscapes. What is the history of Richfield?
Richfield has a long history, beginning in 1820 when it was a suburb to Minnesota's first military base, Fort Snelling. Before 1867 Richfield was farmland that stretched north from Minneapolis's Lake Street to Bloomington on the south. And the boundary ran from the Mississippi River west, all the way to what is now Highway 169. After 1867, Richfield started shrinking as industry began to take over. By the time Minneapolis grew into an urban community, Richfield had shrunk to the seven square miles that it occupies today.
