San Luis Obispo, as the name suggests, has Spanish origins. In the 1700s, Spaniards entered the area and constructed a mission, which remains in the city’s center to this day. The creek, which provided water for both the mission and the town, continues to flow through San Luis Obispo’s Mission Plaza, which is the main area for local celebrations and festivals.
How is the weather in San Luis Obispo?
If you are looking for great weather conditions, you couldn’t ask for much more than San Luis Obispo has to offer. You can expect sunny conditions year round, and the temperatures are never too hot or too cold. In mid-summer, high temperatures remain in the 70s, and the lows of the dead of winter rarely fall below the 40s.
How do I get around town?
If you live in San Luis Obispo apartments, getting around is never hard, even if you don’t own a car. Amtrak runs several times daily via Seattle’s Coast Starlight and San Diego’s Pacific Surfliner. For those who prefer to travel by air, the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport, just south of downtown, is at your disposal.

For a four-hour commute into Los Angeles or San Francisco, you can take U.S. Highway 101. However, if you are heading into San Francisco and prefer a more scenic route, Highway 1 is available but adds about two additional hours to your travel time.

Local newspapers include the Mustang News, the Cuestonian, the New Times and the Tribune. However, if you prefer news radio or television, you can tune into Radio KVEC on AM 920 or watch the news on NBC’s KSBY.
