Looking for a way to get a college education at a discounted rate in San Antonio? Easy. San Antonio College. It's the perfect fit for a San Antonio Apartment-ite on a budget, or who just likes to budget. First established in 1925 as a Junior College under the University of Texas, the College soon became San Antonio Junior College and then later San Antonio College. A member of the Alamo Community College system and the oldest Community College in Texas, SAC also proves to be one of the largest with an average semester enrollment of 21,000 students. This makes it not only the largest in the state of Texas, but also one of the largest community colleges in the nation. San Antonio College provides Vocational, Educational and Professional education that allows students to go on to a 4 year University or College. Admission SAC has an open enrollment policy. This means that if you want to attend, basically all you need to do is bounce up out of your apartment, show up and apply. In order to first enroll in classes, you need the following: an application on file, your high school transcripts or GED, SAT, ACT or THEA scores. You will also need to take placement test and see a counselor for advisement. After completing all of this, you will go to orientation and register for your classes. Cost Tuition will cost you about $745 dollars per 12 hours taken per semester. This does not include books or lab fees. Areas of Study Whether you are attending to get an Associates Degree or just getting your basics out of the way, SAC has plenty to choose from. You can study a wide range of courses from liberal arts subjects like American Sign Language or Anthropology to Nursing classes that count towards your Associates Degree. SAC is also the first Community College in Texas to offer an Associates Degree in Mortuary Science. So if the current major that your taking has given you rigor mortis, think about a change and take another look at SAC. Apartment Living or Dorm Living If you are attending SAC, the only option is to live off of campus. Campus Life There is an active student life organization on campus, that coordinates and plans events. There is also a Recreation Sports program available for students to compete and have fun without being cooped up in the apartment, studying all the time. San Antonio has a very lively downtown area, with the Riverwalk, Museums and Zoo access and getting an education while living in a city like this is an experience that all Apartment-ites should have!
