Temple City is a city located in Los Angeles, CA. It is considered one of the safest cities to live in California, currently rankingá5th on that list. The city's original name was called the City of Temple after its founder, Walter Temple. Temple city is northeast of downtown Los Angeles, and is located in a cluster of cities at the base of the San Gabriel Mountains. Other cities located in this cluster include Alhambra, Arcadia, San Marino, San Gabriel and Pasadena.á
What is the history of Temple City?
The city was founded in 1923 when land developer Walter P. Temple purchased 285 acres of land.á When he established the city, he envisioned a place where people could live in a community where they could afford to purchaseámoderate-priced homes. He helped the new community grow by petitioning the Pacific Electric Rail Company to extend rail service, integrating the city with Los Angeles and other neighboring communities. This brought inámore merchants and businesses, allowing the population to grow. As a result of this move, it created the legendary Red Car railcar. This was one of the early ways to criss-cross Southern California before the construction of freeways. á

The city features many family-friendly activities, such as parks, a drive-in movie theater and small shopping centers. The city is also home to many small businesses, so you can find unique items in the area. There are also plenty of restaurants in the area. If you start to get bored with small town life and want a little more excitement, you have a wide array of cities you can travel to within an hours' drive. You can go to Los Angeles and have a day in the city. The beach is about 30 miles away. Universal Studios is about 20 miles away. Disneyland is about 30 miles away. Beverly Hills is less than 35 miles away. There is so much to do within close proximity.á
Any annual festivals or Temple City events to know?
The most well-known festival in Temple City, CA is the Camellia Festival, which takes place in February. This festival has taken place for nearly 80 years now. The festival features a parade that hosts floats that are made from Camelias. Unlike the nearby Rose parade that Pasadena hosts, no commercial floats are allowed. The floats have to be made by community members, with most of the floats being made by the youth in the community. In addition to the parade, the community also has a three-day carnival to celebrate this event. The other annual event that takes place is Saint Luke's Parish Fiestal, which happens at St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church everyáApril. Much like the Camelia Festival, the Parish Feistal is a three-day event that features games and a carnival.á

One of the things that many people love about living in Temple City is the nearby vacation opportunities. Southern California is a vacation destination, so you have everything from Hollywood to Beverly Hills to amazing beaches to theme parks all in your backyard. Las Vegas is also a four hour drive from the area, making it a great weekend get away. Finally, Los Angeles International Airport is one of the largest airports in the United States. As such, you can catch a flight at this airport to anywhere you want to go in the world.á
