While the name Wilton Manors seemed to have been coined in 1925, the city was first incorporated in 1947. Wilton Drive, the hot spot in town, started out as a sleepy roadway. Now, it hosts numerous entertainment opportunities, including diverse dining, shopping and artsy experiences. In the 1940s, Market Manor on Wilson Drive had sawdust floors and its sides were open to the ocean breeze. Today, it’s the modern ZigZag building, Home to the South Florida Symphony Orchestra space. Halloween on the drive is a huge event for the Wilton Manors’ LGBTQ community. However, the festivities got their start all the way back in the 1950s. Many businesses have come and gone along the five-point intersection that has become a Wilton Drive landmark. However, Barton & Miller Cleaners has remained on its spot for over six decades. Those with a taste for the sweet life will appreciate the Dairy Queen on Wilton Drive, which has been dishing out ice cream to hot natives and tourists since 1953. Today, the city is a haven for South Florida's LGBTQ community and a tourist hotspot.

US Route 441 is a bit further east but provides an alternative when 1-95 becomes jammed due to an accident or commuter traffic. Wilton Manors residents can also drive down to Miami Beach in 45 minutes and spend the weekend enjoying monster-size drinks and people watching while soaking in the sun on South Beach. Not to mention that the Florida Keys are just a couple of hours away.
