For a truly memorable adventure without leaving the Akron city limits, grab your favorite neighbors and head out to the Akron Zoological Park. With a history of conservation and education dating back to 1900 and originally known as the Akron Museum of Natural History, this Zoological Park has seen continued growth through the years thanks to community enthusiasm and generous member support. From its first high-end exhibit in the 1960's (Monkey Island) to the park's current staggering animal count of well over 400 species, the Akron Zoological Park has witnessed tremendous expansion in a relatively short amount of time. Currently home to such exotic animals as Sumatran tigers, African lions, Malayan sun bears, red pandas, Chinese alligators and even the truly rare Komodo Dragon, the park draws upwards of 150,000 eager visitors each year. Hungry Akron apartment residents fortunately won't need to rely on zoo handlers to let them know when it's feeding time, as the park offers numerous restaurants onsite, and the little one's will certainly want to swing by the Lizard Lounge, where animal experts are on hand to answer all of their curious queries. With adult admission only $10 and child fees averaging about half of that amount depending on age, the Akron Zoological Park is as exciting as it is affordable. So what are you waiting for?
