Explore Albany
Now that you are finally unpacked in your new Albany-area apartment, the realization has started to sink in...you're officially a New Yorker! Still, for some reason it doesn't feel complete; you've got the attitude down pat, and the fast-paced lifestyle is something that takes a little getting used to, but you need something to cement (preferably not shoes) your New York status. For Albany-area apartment-ites eager to get 'made', few things are as re-confirming as a multi-course meal at the one and only Jack's Oyster House. Opened all the ay back in 1913, Jack's Oyster House is one fine dining establishment that definitely believes in the concept of 'keeping it in the family' - case in point, the restaurant has continuously been helmed since opening its doors by the Rosenstein family (including Jack himself). Celebrities, politicians (including the Kennedy's) and even a few 'friends of ours' have been known to frequent Jack's, so don't be surprised to spot a few famous faces among the packed dining room. A true test of any restaurant is, of course, the food, and Jack's simply slays the capitol area competition in this regard. Having scored French certified Master Chef Luc Pasquier (one of only several dozen in the country!), Jack's customary elegance and top-notch food presentation has never faltered during its many years of business. Hosting a high-class seafood bar menu (what else would one expect?), Jack's is the ideal place to down a chilled colossal shrimp cocktail, a dozen littleneck clams, or the house specialty jumbo lump crabmeat martini tossed with Cajun remoulade. The closely guarded recipe for Manhattan clam chowder dates back to the restaurant's inception, and entrees such as the red beat sea scallops, vegetarian risotto and veal cutlet cordon bleu will have you singing 'New York, New York" at the top of your lungs in no time. Hey pal, you've earned it.
