The Basement Beau
August 31, 2015Our apartment is so perfectly located--we can easily walk to Chinatown Metro or Mt. Vernon square, giving us access to all sorts of colors on the metro. The circulator and several buses also run right around the neighborhood. But the BEST perk, before I get into the specifics of the building, is Safeway literally across the STREET! It's a good and bad thing because it's open 24/7--we live like its our world, baby girl! Now for the apartment. We live in the Madison Victorian building, and ...rent from the United House of Prayer. By far the worst thing about renting from them is simply the fact that we cannot pay online, or anywhere in DC for that matter--we have to mail a check every month. But luckily most banks do that for you now! The basement unit is by far the best, because it's only 3 steps from ground level, and in the bedroom we have 3 windows. We have a front and back door, and get the most sunlight I've ever seen in a basement unit. Additionally, it's the most spacious of the 3 apartments in the building. All of the units have been updated/modernized, and include a washer/dryer! We love having the trash right outside the door so it's simple to take out. Though we have this theory that it also causes fruit flies in the summer. We rarely have maintenance issues in our place, and must say UHOP is very responsive. Sometimes it may take a few times for them to get it right, but they try. The neighborhood has exploded over the past 3 years and so now there are new bars, restaurants, and condos that create a fun atmosphere. I guess the only other downfall of the apartments are having no amenities, such as a pool or lounge, but that's offset by the price of our rent-which fortunately has not exploded with the neighborhood boom. And we were on a waitlist for a parking spot, and now have that. If you ask me, this place is GOLDEN.Read MoreReview from Apartments.com

August 10, 2015Great location, walking distance from China Town and the Monuments. There are a couple of great coffee shops in the area and living basically next door to a Safeway is awesome too. Short walk from 14th Street night life. Only two blocks away from the Mt. Vernon (Yellow & Green line) Metro stop.Review from Apartments.com
