When the sun goes down in Austin, there are a number of places that folks from apartments in Austin may gather, but for those searching for the hippest, most in-the-know folks around, they'll all be gathered around the Congress Bridge. Folks may wonder why at first, but when a fluttering of wings as a cloud of brown and black comes bursting from beneath, all wonder will cease. There are few sights quite as breathtaking as the flight of the Congress Bridge bats every night, which is why on any particular evening in the summer you'll find huge crowds congregated to see them all. Of course, the best way to make sure to catch them every night is to find an apartment near the Congress Bridge, where you might not even have to leave your comfy couch to watch the bats in action. The Congress Bridge bats make up the largest urban colony of bats in North America, and is home to over 1.5 million Mexican free-tails. When the sun goes down, folks lucky enough to find a spot on the bridge will see all the millions of bats making their way from beneath the bridge in a cloud of wings and heads, blotting out the sun. There are so many of these bats that, if one from Austin apartment has their television on, the colony of bats will appear on the weather radar. Finding an apartment near the Congress Bridge will give you the chance to beat the crowds and get the best spots, without having to take off too early in the day. Seeing the bats is a rite of passage for any true Austinite, and is something no person from an Austin apartment should pass up.
