Food and Frolic can certainly be found in abundance by Cleveland apartment-ites at Pickwick and Frolic Restaurant, a laughter filled showplace for lunch and dinner. The site of the former Cleveland opera house provides a spacious spot to watch comedy or enjoy a show. Located in the heart of Cleveland's historic Gateway neighborhood, the two-tiered location serves a variety of freshly prepared food that makes one's mouth water just looking at the menu. American Rustic cuisine is the fare at Pickwick, and they pride themselves on the freshness of the ingredients and style with which it is served. The lavish portions will send you home full. The open kitchen focuses on its woodstone hearth oven and two wood-fired rotisserie char-broilers. The name "American Rustic" includes comfort foods like homemade meatloaf and chicken pot pie, double bone-in pork chops with wood grilled acorn squash, delectable rotisserie chicken, wood grilled steaks and signature items such as herb crusted, wood fired and spit roasted prime rib. Of course, the hearth oven is perfect for turning out rustic hand-tossed pizzas and fresh baked flatbreads. Tasty sides include hand cut french fries, yukon gold cheddar chive mashed potatoes, wood-grilled fresh vegetables and additional creative side dishes and huge salads. If you're just stopping in for a drink and a bite before a show, the appetizer menu has lots to offer the Cleveland apartment-ite. Choose from coconut shrimp or crab cakes for the seafood lover, the delicious Pickwick cheddar ale soup or my favorite - a selection of fresh hearth oven baked bread with roasted garlic & tomato relish, olive tapenade, hummus, red pepper aioli & artichoke spreads. After the show, or even for dessert, try one of their scrumptious dessert martinis, including the raspberry cheesecake, the mud slide, or a more traditional brandy Alexander or grasshopper. The lounge offers a reduced menu with more choices in appetizers, and plenty of pizza choices without the entrees. And the specialty martinis are a treat. The Japanese Slipper is Black Haus, melon and a splash of sour mix while the Cheech is Patron, Patron Citronge, a splash of soda and fresh squeezed lemon . For the sweet drinker, try the Pineapple Upside Down Cake - vodka with a splash of pineapple juice. Of course, a complete wine list, beer and mixed drinks are available as well. The name Pickwick comes from the work of comic Charles Dickens, who wrote a series of comedies named The Pickwick Papers, and inspired owners to name their facility after his work. The serial format of the work described the adventures of an eccentric group of characters named the Pickwick Club. The fun, interactive atmosphere derived from this name offers the best in service, and was voted "the best place to laugh out loud" in the Northern Ohio Live magazine. The entire 27,000 square foot facility encompasses the restaurant and club, a theatre, a martini bar and a champagne bar. If you're thinking about asking a date from your Cleveland apartment, be sure to check out their website or give them a ring to find out what's on the schedule.
