The turnpike produced considerable business for carriage makers and blacksmiths. In fact, the city of Florence became one of the largest towns in Boone County.

The city of Florence is also home to several well-developed public golf courses. The World of Golf, which opened in 1969, is a city-owned facility that offers a championship-caliber course. In addition to the 18-hole executive course, the facility features an 18-hole miniature golf course. There are a variety of activities available for visitors to enjoy at World of Golf, including private parties and corporate events.

The city of Florence is home of the Northern Kentucky State Fairgrounds. The fairgrounds host a variety of events each year, including a horse show and carnival rides. Where are the nearby vacation spots?

Florence, Kentucky is convenient to a lot of vacation destinations, including Cincinnati, Ohio. Cincinnati can be reached in under half an hour. The city is a large metropolis with a wide range of restaurants and entertainment options, like the Cincinnati Music Hall and the football stadium for the Bengals. Farther out of Florence is the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and the Grand Ole Opry, both in Nashville, Tennessee. Dollywood Parks is just a four hour drive from Florence to Pigeon Gorge, Tennessee.
