Towards the end of the 19th century, there was a proliferation of cattle ranches, fruit orchards, stores and a host of other businesses. The town was incorporated in 1876 and grew tremendously, owing to its perfect location, fertile soils, and great climate. Housing would replace agricultural activities and lead to population growth in the 1950s. Today, Hayward has a diverse population and continues to attract trade, manufacturing activities, and commerce.
