With a little strategy and ingenuity, the entire moving process from the exciting apartment search to the exhausting move, can actually be quite painless and buckets of fun. Proper planning with the following 3 tips is the secret ingredient to a stress-free move that will leave you enjoying a warm cup of coffee on your comfy couch in your brand spanking new apartment as soon as you can click your heels together and say, “There’s no place like home.”
Schedule Out Your Move- To insure the most efficient and head-ache free move possible, it’s best to schedule out the entire process from beginning to end. Be sure to include ample time in the schedule for all packing, loading, transportation, and unforeseen issues and/or complications. You’ll even want to schedule a good amount of time unpacking to keep you on schedule and keep you sane.
Pre-Plan Your Billing Address Changes- They may not be your favorite thing to think about, but in any move you’ll want to call the cable, internet, electric, and any other utility company to either transfer, cancel, or open service. Make sure that this is preplanned and that you don’t wait to the last minute. It’s also imperative to remember to change your address listed with any credit card, bank account, or other company that often sends mail your way. An additional great step is to forward all of your mail to your new address through the USPS at either their website or an office.
Enlist Your Friends- It's time to call on those favors that friends, co-workers or family have said they owed you. A friend with a truck is an optimal candidate for helping you complete a true move of ease. You may have to bribe them with some cash, but for most truck owners dinner and a six pack of their favorite frosty cold-ones will do. Call on other friends to help you tote boxes and such from one place to the other. If you're really lucky, you may enlist a whole crew and automatically become a finger pointing foreman.
No matter how you look at it or how you pull it off, moving is definitely a challenge. Cutting corners here and there, proper planning, and a well thought out strategy will help make you more successful at moving than our apartment experts...and they're good!
