Vacaville Overview

Vacaville might have been off the radar for many years in Northern California, but it's recently experienced a major surge in popularity. Between the economic opportunities and the gorgeous landscape, those living in Vacaville apartments are centrally located in many ways. Sandwiched between Sacramento and San Francisco, it opens up plenty of doors for those who want to get a taste for the best of the state.

What is the history of Vacaville?

Vacaville has a bit of a saucy past, originally stemming from a duplicitous land deal. The original owner was a man named Manuel Vaca, and he sold the land under false pretenses to a William McDaniel. The land was first recorded in 1851, and the city was first incorporated in the late 1800s. In its first years, Vacaville was a place for farmers to hang their hats, a fact that led the city to be known as the fresh fruit capital of the state. Today, it's known for its collection of life-science companies, with Chiron, Alzo, and Genentech all using the city for its home base.

How is the weather in Vacaville?

Like most places in California, the weather in Vacaville is dry and hot during the summer. However, the winter's are relatively cold and wet, a Northern California trait that can see the temperatures dip down into the 30s. However, it's rare for the Vacaville to hit freezing or rise much above triple digits. The area may also see mild earthquakes from time to time.

How do I get around town?

Vacaville does have public transportation available in the form of the bus and subway. There are stations in the most popular areas of the city, though the number of stops is usually not enough to make it a practical way to get around town. Most Vacaville residents will have a vehicle of some sort to get around town, as the city is not noted as particularly walkable and there are few bike lanes. The nearest major airport is Sacramento, or residents can travel to Oakland or San Francisco for their flights.

What is the Vacaville commute like?

Traffic in the Bay Area is notoriously heavy. However, there will be many people who can take the Bay Area Rapid Transit. This may be a major time commitment from Vacaville, though still a shorter option when you factor in rush-hour congestion. The two major highways that run through Vacaville are the I-80 and the I-505. The former will take you to Fairfield, Dixon, Davis, and Sacramento, while the latter will take you north to Allendale, Winters, and Cottonwood.

What are the local media outlets?

The Reporter is the main source of news in Vacaville, though you'll still see plenty of people relying on The San Francisco Chronicle or other major news San Francisco news stations for their top headlines. Popular radiostations include KUIC and KQEI.

Why live in Vacaville, CA?

Vacaville has a certain spirit that you can really see threaded through its streets. The area is one of the fastest-growing the US, largely because of the economic opportunities to be found there. That kind of pioneering mentality is what's helping the city gain traction in an already notable area. Plus, it's home to some of the most interesting natural features in the US, including the famous redwoods.

What Vacaville landmarks should I see?

The most famous landmark is the Nut Tree, a major road stop shopping plaza that grew from one small stand. It's a great place to have dinner, pick up a few treats, and just enjoy the hustle and bustle of the crowds. There are also a variety of parks in the area, including Lagoon Valley, Pena Adobe, and Andrews Park. Or stop by the Vacaville Museum, a small but interesting spot to learn more about the local events that formed the city you now see today.

What is there to do around Vacaville?

Vacaville is all about getting outside and soaking up the sunshine. The relatively mild weather makes it a great city to go hiking through the redwoods or biking along Alamo Creek. In addition to a wide variety of parks for kids, adults, and even dogs, there's also world-class dining and wine-tasting experiences located in the city center and beyond.

Any annual festivals or Vacaville events to know?

Vacaville may not have festivals or events that draw people in from every corner of the globe, but they are known for a wide variety of smaller happenings. Farmers' markets, carnivals, parades, performance arts: there are a number of activities that can spice up any month of the year. The average age of Vacaville residents is 37, making this a great place for families and younger professionals who still want to live in the suburbs.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

Napa, Sonoma, Sacramento, and San Francisco are just a few places of note. These are all one-tank trips that you can extend into a fun-filled weekend getaway. Plus, you can visit them all-year-round, making them a great choice for winter stays. Visit San Jose and take a tour of the Winchester Mystery House or take a fun-filled trip through the many vineyards of nearby wine country. There's also Monterey Bay with its famous aquarium or Big Sur for the best in coastal sights.

Where is the best place to move in Vacaville?

If you're looking for some of the most popular spots, stay close to Nut Tree, Meridian, and Browns Valley Road. However, due to the size of the city, there's really no best place in Vacaville. It will all depend on everything from your personal preferences to your commute to work from the apartments in Vacaville.
