It is home to the tallest office building, known as the Wells Fargo Center. It is also known as the “Twin City” because of its dual heritage for Arts and Innovation. In 1913, the two cities of Winston and Salem were merged.

The Winston-Salem Transit Authority (WSTA) is a free public transportation provider for the city, making 26 daily routes between 5:30am and midnight. Amtrak and Greyhound are available as well.

The Business-40 runs east-to-west through downtown Winston-Salem and loops around to I-40. US-52 and NC-8 run north-and-south and are the predominant freeways in Winston-Salem.
