  • The worst place that I've ever lived

    October 30, 2017
This apartment complex is absolutely the best place to live if you love cockroaches, leaking faucets, stains from leaking roof on you ceiling, parking lots occupied by construction equipment, and absolutely no customer service. Oh, and did I mention that you are going to pretty much live in the leasing office, since the list of things they need from you every month doesn't seem to ever end. So good luck with your new apartment!
    Review from Apartments.com
  • worst place ever

    August 19, 2017
Where do I begun? Rude staff, mice, parking, overpricing. Lived here for 2 & half years. First day I signed lease...incompetent person they had name was Chris gave me wrong key to my apartment not to mention the alcohol I smelled when I was going through the paper work with him which was unprofessional. No loading zone for new residence, parking is so horrible especially on weekends. Pest control kept leaving my apt door unlocked. I reported the issue as it keeps reoccurring the response was ...
"call the police" not to mention when I went in the office the people who suppose to be "senior members" are so off putting, lack of basic customer service skills. They find ways to nickel and dime you. Changed payment systems without notifying residences and waited at exact intervals to charge late fee. They will waste paper for the sheer sake of wasting paper to leave on your door but when it comes to critical information they won't communicate it. I lived alone (no other person, kids, pets and not heavy cooker, spends limited time there) irrespective of these facts the slew of mice I see was unbelievable especially last year of my residency. I reported the issue they keep saying they did treatment but it got worst. Can you believe trash was not picked up for two days, I was pissed that was icing on cake. How the heck can you control mice issue without getting trash picked up five days straight. They saved the best for last, I paid for express clean service for carpet and they send me "damage" dog pee. I never owned a pet, no burns no stains. When I called the person who I have been dealing with for past few years, extremely rude, extremely cold, off putting Marian told me she sending me to collection if I do not pay. She is unbelievably arrogant and one of the senior members who enjoys being rude. By all means do not rent here!

  • Avoid this complex if you can

    July 19, 2017
Parking is a mess, they won't give you a pass unless you are one of the lucky first 15 who get one for the _whole complex_. They claim that street parking is plentiful, but it is almost always full, and the next nearest area for street parking is a good 1.5 miles away (including a rather large hill). There's garbage scattered about the complex most days, and the dumpsters fill up within two days of the truck picking up. They claim that residents just toss garbage around, but it's just that the ...
dumpsters fill faster than management has them collected. Do not approach the trees, there is poison ivy everywhere. For some units, the poison ivy is right up to the patio (not mine, I have a second-floor unit). I have been here since October, all of the same people who were here when I started my lease remain, yet I get completely different answers from them on a variety of issues. Management gives you the run-around whenever an issue pops up, and they surprise you with new policies whenever it seems to suit them.

  • Management Stole Our Stuff

    June 25, 2017
Management Stole our Stuff! Worst apartment management I've ever worked with. Management and maintenance were performing apartment checks so they let themselves into the apartment without our consent, and stole our tv stand from our apartment. When we approached management about the theft, they told us that they weren't going to inquire at all and that it was too bad for us. They said if we went to the police, they would cooperate. Worst place I have ever seen in my life. DO NOT MOVE HERE!! We ...
also had a really bad problem with bugs! During the summers, when you went to bed at night and turned off the lights in the kitchen, the bugs would come out by the hundreds. When you would turn the light on in the morning, it would appear as if the floor was moving. DISGUSTING. Maintenance never fixed it. Again, DO NOT MOVE HERE.

  • Good complex, reasonable rent, worth the occasional incovenience

    May 23, 2017
Great place to live. I've lived here for four months. Nice facility and always responsive on maintenance. Staff is helpful for things you need including receiving packages so they don't sit outside your door. The only reason I don't give it five stars is there are a lot of families with young children who run around and play. I'm fine with that it's the screaming I don't like. I purposely chose to live away from the school or daycare and pool in order to have peace and quiet, yet about 10-15 kids ...
under 12 run around the open grass area in front of my apartment much of the day screaming and yelling while playing. I blame the parents who sit right there and don't teach their kids not to scream in public areas. They also sometimes litter and don't pick up after themselves by the picnic tables and BBQs, nor do they teach their children to pick up their trash. One other complaint is people drop off their garbage and recycling right inside the door of the dumpsters so it piles up instead of pushing it inside, and there is a resulting giant mess every week. They also drop off old furniture at the dumpsters even though it's against the lease. Some people just don't follow the rules and that makes it harder for the rest of us who do. Parking can be a challenge as well although it's free. Overall Hillwood and Stoneridge is a nice place to live with reasonable rent and very conveniently located. The soundproofing inside the buildings is excellent. My apartment is clean and neat, which is the most important thing.

  • Pretty Good So Far

    April 14, 2017
I reside at Hillwood apartment for 3 years now. Just like the previous review I too moved from a 1 bedroom and renewed my lease to a 1bedroom with Den which I turned that into a bedroom for my 7yr old daughter. I love the location as well as I work in Rosslyn Va close to my job. I have lived on the 3rd floor and 1st floor and haven't had any crime issues , they do have fixed utility which I like, and haven't had any real big issues here with my experience and when I did have small concerns with ...
anything in my apartment Bridgie W. in the office has always helped me with my concerns and Nadia.

  • Looks great when you first move in

    August 28, 2016
Maintenance is not prompt. Place is infested with rodents and insects. Great location great exterior, lovely trail nearby. Units not properly protected from the elements. It was not worth the money I do not recommend this place.

  • Please do not move here

    December 10, 2015
This place is bug and mice infected. The walls are not sealed to the floor allowing all types of creatures to venture into your home. During the summer, lizards get in. I have seen trails of ants coming up from the cracks in the floor. As others have mentioned, maintenance is horrible. I have two small children that I can not let out of my site because maintenance never shows up to correct the insect and rodent problem. My 3 year old boy is now terrified. We sweep and mop with bleach 3 ...
times a day, yet due to the cracks and god knows what else, the insects and animals still return.

  • Worst experience

    August 2, 2015
I moved here being told that we were getting two parking strickers per apartment but than they start drama after we sign our lease saying that we need a license to have our car parked plus they only give you until the 3rd of each month to pay rent or else they charge you a late fee which is 10% of your rent & they only give you until the 10th to pay the late fee & when you tell them you'll pay the late fee & rent a certain day they still take you to court. Maintenance is horrible, they only ...
temporarily fix something & you call to tell them it needs to be fixed again they get mad or never show up! The staff is extremely rude. The only person who was nice was Anthony but it's been months since I've seen him at the office so who knows what happened to him since he was the only nice person there.

  • Average Apartments

    August 24, 2015
I am living in JBG's Hillwood apartment for about 4.5 years. Changed from 1 to 2bedroom this year. Here are the plus and minus. Plus: Great location. Highways, buses to Metro, near to DC, Near to shopping centers. Great value for money. I am paying $1300s Plus $155 fix Utility and variable for Gas and internet. Minus: Some of the apartments have Cockroaches, especially, if you are at basement level. They were there in 1 bed, that I use to live. I changed to 2 bedroom, at 1st floor, free of ...
roaches, and in summer, I saw 3 mouses in our house. The mgmt then help me clear all entrances for them. Its now free of them. The crime possibility is not that much. But you have to careful in summer late nights. Its pretty much safe. Overall: If you don't take at basement level you should be pretty OK with rest of the community.

  • Pretty OK, but expensive!

    August 19, 2015
I stay in a one bedroom apart over here. As a single male I can say it fits my needs for the time being, but it definitely inspires me toward some kind of home/land ownership. Reasons being that you definitely pay for the convenience of being close to DC here, and I have had SEVERAL neighbors around me move to either downgrade the price or find bigger bang for the buck. For some of the rates, you might as well try for a house and lower your expenses that way. Pros- Has patio exposed to the ...
outside Close to DC, Pentagon City Mall Close-by shopping centers for basic needs Nature trail is the next block over Overall, a nice area to walk around. The area is not too bad on the eyes. Weekday Shuttle will take you to Pentagon City Metro, if you have the shuttle card. Cons Walls too thin, if neighbors have noisy kids(especially little ones) you'll know Maintenance HAS to do pest control once in awhile Some neighbors are just plain noisy, hope you can work it out with them Details about the Area I consider it the international hub of VA here. There's some of everyone from literally EVERYWHERE around here. Thus there are various international food stores in the area if you have specific food items you like. People pretty much keep to themselves; they just want to work, take care of their kids, and live their lives. Definitely helps if you know Spanish as many people in the area speak Spanish, or Arabic as a first language( for many, their ONLY language). BUT if you can talk to them(and sometimes even if you can't, like in my case), you might very well be invited over to have beer. Overall, I can see though some people have been here several years, they use it as a stepping stone to greater things. If you have neighbors who aren't too noisy, you won't really have too many complaints.

  • Decent apartment with a less than decent community

    August 10, 2015
The Hillwood complex has its positives and negatives. I moved in late July of 2015. I want to confirm and make comments on reviews I read prior to moving in. The apartment itself is great! I have a one bedroom that has plenty of space and storage. The walls and carpets were all in great condition and the two minor repairs that were needed were dealt with promptly. The appliances work fine. Honestly, you pay for what you get. It's the typical white wall, white carpet, and a little out dated kind ...
of place...but if that's all you need, it's perfect. There are a few problems with the community as a whole. It is GROSS. There is garbage spilling out of the dumpsters and all over the street. I've seen people crush beer cans and just drop them where they're walking. I find a new piece of trash in the grass off of my patio daily. It's horrible. There is also a lot of shattered glass which makes me nervous to walk my dog. Another note if you have a dog...a lot of people at the complex are SCARED of them! I have a sweet golden retriever who has been screamed at several times. It makes me feel horrible. There is NO provided visitor parking. The street parking is free, however, fills up quickly after work. Forget having a few friends hang out at night because they tow at 10 PM.Also, they don't tell you this when you sign the lease, but there are only 15 visitor passes given out a day! People line up to get them. When I've asked for special exceptions the managers were completely rude. Having the shopping center right there is nice, however, the Global Foods is GROSS. I only recommend going to the CVS... Rent payments and maintenance are all paid for and requested on an online portal, which is super convenient! There is a free shuttle to various metro stations during rush hour which is nice as well. A small perk if you use it. Again, it is what you pay for. If you want a decent apartment with a not decent community...this place is fine.
