You've got a big date this weekend, and the perfect evening mapped out. This girl is definitely of the Winona Ryder persuasion - arty, a film buff and definitely into indie rock - so after a light dinner and a viewing of Empire Records in your Atlanta apartment (on special edition DVD no less!), it's off to the hippest of live music joints, the Star Bar. Don't let the 'bar' part of the name fool you, as live music is definitely the way of the walk at the Star. Rockabilly, punk and garage greasers crowd the intimate stage almost every night of the week, with low cover charges and high energy. Heavy hitters like Mastodon and The Woggles have all paid their dues rocking the Star, and if you time things right you just might even luck out and catch one of their infamous Elvis Tribute nights. And for those associating 'indie' with 'cheap', it's a hard argument to win given the $2 cans of PBR. So while the ambiance might be a little down and dirty, odds are good it will still be a big hit with your new punk rock girl; just don't let her pull a Winona and swipe the coasters when no one is looking.
