In Charlotte, for fine dining in a sophisticated setting, Noble's is the place to be. Tucked away on Morrison Blvd, this hidden gem by chef Jim Noble offers traditionally elegant dishes such as duck confit, but also gives classic favourites like pizza an elegant twist (try the traditionally Southern-style scalloped potatoes or the fried corn). At Noble's, the bold, sleek décor is the first impression of what your dining experience is going to be like, but the relaxed layout is more of an ode to European-style wine bars rather than associating fine dining with pretention. The restaurant prides itself on using only fresh, organic, local ingredients in every dish, and makes everything from scratch, including the table breads. Among the menu items, it's definitely worth sampling the Ahi Tuna Carpaccio or the foie gras truffle terrine as a starter, and either the Basil Scottish Salmon or the Braised Smoked Pork Cheeks. Vegetarian apartment-ites may feel a little left out, however - there are no options for entrées but if there are a selection of appetizers and sides if you're not feeling too peckish, including the Chevre & Beets Risotto or the Umbrian Truffles on House Tagliatelle. Their lunch menu offers more veggie-friendly options, such as the Pear Arugula Flatbread or the Margarita Pizza. For drinks, Noble's offers an extensive wine list, but their jewel in the crown is their dessert menu - try the Courvoisier & Currant Bread Pudding, served with honey gelato & butterscotch sauce. Like any upscale establishment, service and presentation are both flawless, and every dish is served as a work of art. Prices are typically in the $30+ range, and the dress code is, well, dressy (so leave those sneakers back at your apartment). Reservations are strongly recommended, as tables here fill up fast.
