Westminster has that big city feel - but without being too big. Yes, with a population of more than 110,000, Westminster has anything and everything a resident needs to live comfortably and stay entertained, but considering its location as a northwest suburb of Denver, professional sports and even more big city entertainment are just a short drive away. So too are the Rocky Mountains, which you can see in the distance. It's all a part of what makes Westminster should a great area to live, as the area mixes nightlife with nature. Read on for more about what makes the region so special and why renting one of the many available Westminster apartments can make for such a great choice.
What is the history of Westminster?
Westminster's roots date back to 1858 when gold was discovered in the area. The first permanent settlement came in 1870, and others soon followed. Though this area of Colorado wasn't ideal for farming, Westminster's early economy was largely contingent on growing fruit, particularly apples and cherries. Once rural, the area's population boomed following World War II when returning soldiers looked for a place to permanently call home and took to the Westminster area's scenery and year-round climate.
How is the weather in Westminster?
The weather is one of the reasons why Westminster's population boomed in the post-World War II era. With summer temperatures reaching the high-80s and low-90s, cold winters, and pleasant fall and spring seasons, the four seasons in a picturesque area is a major draw for residents. While Westminster only gets about 17 inches of rain per year - down from the national average of 38 inches - it gets an above-average 64 inches of annual snow, making it a paradise for skiing, snowboarding and other snow recreation activities.
How do I get around town?
It's east to get around town, which makes renting a Westminster apartment an ideal option. There's the Denver Regional Transportation District, or RTD, which offers public bus transportation in the area via The Filtration Flyer rapid transit service. The Filtration Flyer offers transportation to and from Denver and Boulder, and the bus travels in express lanes for prompt service that you wouldn't otherwise get from a standard bus. For longer journeys, Westminster is served by two airports: Denver International Airport and the smaller Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport.
What is the Westminster commute like?
Aside from public transportation or commercial aviation, it's easy to get around Westminster with your own vehicle as well thanks to the numerous highways that intersect it. There's 1-25, US 36 and US 287, and there are also other busy throughways, including SH 95, SH 121 and SH 128.

These outlets include the main daily newspaper covering the region, The Denver Post, news-talk radio stations KOA and KNUS, and local CBS, ABC, NBC and Fox affiliates. Other notable media outlets include the Denver Business Journal and KHOW.

It still stands loud and proud today.
