Halloween is just around the corner, and even though you've got the requisite carved pumpkin at your doorstep and that plastic skeleton adorned on your apartment wall, you've had a yearning for some spooky ambiance. Fortunately, the Graveyard Tavern in downtown Atlanta has enough campy attitude to last you all season long. Just 'over the top' enough, the Graveyard is exactly what a restaurant-slash-pub with such a moniker should be. Horror film memorabilia, ranging from the bad to the really bad, can be found lining the various nooks and crannies of this darkened beer chamber. High wooden booths and comfortable bar stool lines much of the general area, with a rockin' jukebox (Screamin' Jay Hawkins anyone?) and a lone pool table provided to help kickstart those first dates. The food is a scream as well, with such homemade comfort chow as grilled cheese with tomato bisque and seasoned sweet potato fries keeping the regulars come back for more. Prices are more than reasonable, and the beer selection ranges from the exotic (Japanese Asahi) to the desperate (tallboy specials of Schlitz, aka "hangover in a can"). Wednesday nights are dedicated to swing dancing, complete with free lessons beginning at 8 p.m., so dust off that old DVD copy of Swingers and brush up on your Big Bad Voodoo Daddy. Combining b-movie cool and affordability, the Graveyard Tavern might easily become your new favorite haunt.
