The Billy Graham Library isn't actually a library, but theologian apartment-ites will have much to explore in this colorful mini museum. Its eponymous hero was a local farm hand who grew to be a respected missionary both in the community and internationally, so the building is dedicated to his memory. Located on Westmont Drive in the city's Steele Creek neighborhood, the museum is unbelievably tiny, but the grounds are well-kept and include a beautiful botanical Prayer Garden with a fifty-foot crucifix and a complete restoration of Graham's childhood home, so it's worth visiting more to take a few pictures of a small local attraction than anything else. The staff at the Information Desk are friendly, helpful, and not at all overbearing, but there isn't really a whole lot to do here. The main feature is "Journey of Faith", a video presentation that highlights Graham's life and work, along with a collection of over 350 photos. They also have a gift shop, and their bookstore has a corner called "Ruth's Attic", devoted to Graham's late wife and her literary tastes as a poet. If you're looking for a bite to eat before heading back to your Charlotte apartments, the Graham Brothers Dairy Bar offers sandwiches and light café fare with a rocking chair or two in which to sit. Ultimately, this library wouldn't be too evangelical for most tastes, but instead offers an interesting glimpse into one of Charlotte's local heroes.
