Dublin Overview

Ohio has many beautiful counties and lively cities, but few are as lovely as Dublin. Many local Ohio residents are proud to call it home, whether they live in gorgeous houses or well-designed Dublin apartments.Neighborhoods surround them to settle down with the family, plenty of excellent job opportunities and room for small business launches, and a close-knit community shining through city activities and festivals.

What is the history of Dublin?

Dublin, OH, has a long and exciting history, intriguing both visitors and residents of the city. The first inhabitants of the area were Native American tribes. In the early 1800s, the Sells family traveled the Scioto River to find excellent farmland and plentiful resources. Ludwig Sells decided upon elevated land, as it offered these benefits in addition to a small risk of flooding. He entitled it Sells Settlement, which the surveyor would rename Dublin many years later when he surveyed and plotted the land. Naturally, he chose this name in memory of Dublin, Ireland.  Established Dublin, OH, slowly grew, as individuals and families came from Pennsylvania. Tree cutting, milling, hunting, farming, stone quarrying, and lodging were sectors that helped the town develop. However, it remained rural until the 1970s. At this point, Dublin began to transform into the thriving, suburban city that can be found today. Strategic moves such as a chemical company setting up shop in town, an on-ramp from the interstate, and the addition of a recreational golf club led to this development. The decisions sparked business growth and residential interest in Dublin. Accordingly, Dublin could claim official city status in the late 1980s.

How is the weather in Dublin?

If you are looking for the perfect state to experience all four seasons, you will enjoy apartments in Dublin, OH. Soak up hot and sunny summer days, relish crisp autumn afternoons, cozy up inside for a cold and snowy winter, or splash around in the rainy spring season. You can expect a longer than average summer, as warm days extend from May to October. Peak summer temperatures are around 90°F, although the average is 84°F. You may also enjoy the winters here more than in states farther northeast, as they rarely drop below 32°F.

How do I get around town?

Dublin, OH, is a fairly large city with many transportation options. It is important to consider amenities, entertainment options, and work or school location when considering Dublin apartments. In some areas, you will be able to walk or bike easily towards preferred destinations.  In fact, the Dublin government works hard to design and build accessible walking and biking paths all over the city. Yet, the majority of people prefer to drive to get around or commute to work. Alternatively, residents can take public transportation such as the electric train system, diesel commuter rail, or bus network extending across the greater area.

What is the Dublin commute like?

If you live in Dublin and commute to any area within the city, your commute time will likely be below 35 minutes. However, during peak traffic times, you may wish to avoid the major highways like Route 33, State Route 161, and State Route 257. Residents advise finding Dublin apartments close to downtown if you plan to travel in this central area. In this way, you will be able to walk or bike to work rather than experiencing congestion on main roads. If you work in the greater Columbus area, expect commute times of 30-45 minutes along Interstate 270 or Route 33.

What are the local media outlets?

Dublin residents should look to local media outlets to learn about exciting events, community activities, city projects, recent news, weather, or traffic conditions. If you prefer to read, you can subscribe to This Week Dublin Villager, The Columbus Dispatch, or Dublin Life Magazine. On the other hand, if you want to catch up or listen to great tunes on the way to work, tune into WZCB 106.7 FM or pick up many excellent stations from nearby Columbus. Additionally, NBC4 WCMH and ABC 6 report news from Dublin and Columbus regularly.
