The township of North Bergen, NJ, population 61,627 (based on the July 1, 2018, Census Bureau population estimate) is nestled between the cities of Secaucus, NJ and the great city of New York, across the river from the famous Manhattan and Upper West Side districts. The famed Lincoln Tunnel approach was made available in North Bergen via Route 3 and U.S. Highway 1-9 in 1939, making the city a vital transportation hub.

Additionally, ferry ports are available in nearby Weehawken and Hoboken, NJ to carry passengers across the Hudson River to the New York Waterway Ferry Terminal in Midtown. Manhattan. The availability of public transportation, along with access to New York through the Lincoln Tunnel, allows helps residents easily get around the greater North Bergen area.

What is the North Bergen commute like?

The major commute from North Bergen takes place over the Lincoln Tunnel at Route 3 and over U.S. Highway 1-9. The tunnel feeds into the busy streets of Midtown and lower Manhattan so caution and careful planning must be in order to find those times, where travel by auto are optimal (with the least amount of gridlock and stress). Traffic throughout North Bergen and the Greater New York area can be stressful at times but manageable if correctly planned.

Festivals, carnivals, and fairs are a big part of life in North Bergen. Winter sees the ushering in of the township’s annual Winterfest, typically held in the first week of December. Backing up, North Bergen is also host to an annual community-wide Halloween Parade in November for all of the neighborhood goblins and ghouls to get their scare on. An Easter Egg Hunt is held by North Bergen in April and September sees the town’s annual Food Truck Festival. North Bergen also sponsors a weekend flea market and farmer’s market during the spring and summer months to allow residents to purchase locally sourced produce and foods and swap unique household items.

Where are the nearby vacation spots?

There is no better vacation opportunity available to residents of North Bergen, NJ than New York itself. The city, described by famous crooner Frank Sinatra as the city that never sleeps, has everything and more to offer to all travelers. A simple ride across the Hudson River exposes you to the beginning of the Broadway District at West 34th Street. From there you can head west to Times Square and the bright lights of Broadway, with its one-of-a-kind theaters, shopping, restaurants, and the experiences that you can only get from entering a New York state of mind!
